BABES RIDE OUT: UK
The first Friday in August saw me stuck in a traffic jam and headed towards Wales with my best friend and ΓΌber-petrolette Robin, wondering if a womenβs only motorcycle festival that had organically evolved in the sun-baked Californian desert could be picked up and successfully placed in the verdant hills of South Wales. The simple answer is yes!
BLACK ARROW LABEL LAUNCH: Sydney
Local start-up label Black Arrow Label (founded by fashion designer and rider Hannah Smith) launched its first product offering last month in Sydney. Like many of us frustrated with the lack of offerings available for women who ride, Hannah put her fashion design skills and entrepreneurial spirit to actually doing something about it.
VICTORIOUS: Sydney
Capping off a month of motorcycle events here in Sydney was VICTORIOUS, an exhibition of motorcycle inspired photographs hosted by Sol Invictus Motorcycle Co. Photographers exhibited included Cole Bennetts, Billy Zammit and (IVV contributors) Cam Elkins, Kate Disher-Quill and yours truly. The place was packed, and was really nice to see some images made for the interwebs get the attention they deserved, printed and hung on the white walls of M2 Gallery in Surry Hills.
GASOLINE LAUNCH: Sydney
After being a motorcycle and scooter workshop for over twenty years, they've recently expanded to selling unique prestige cars as well, all on show for an intimate launch. There food trucks, pulled pork sliders, a purpose built bar fully stocked (and now permanent), free hair cutting and grooming for men as guests were free to roam the showroom and workshop.
THE HEINRICH MANEUVER LAUNCH: Deus Customs Sydney
A bunch of Sydney local moto-scene-stas were invited to an intimate gathering to reveal the launch of an exciting collaboration between BMW Motorrad Australia and Deus Ex Machina as the custom motorcycle house revealed their take on the German engineered R nineT.
THROTTLE ROLL: Sydney 2015
For the uninitiated, Throttle Roll, in its third year running, is a street style party that celebrates all things happening in custom motorcycle building from the backyard to the professional workshop. Since the first year, the crowd has grown, the bike selection has grown, the sponsorship variety has grown and the best thing? Free entry.
DEUS BIKE BUILD OFF: Sydney
Seeing people descend on Bondi Pavilion to see the love poured into the builds that were entered, made the 5:30am wake up call (on a Sunday) well worth it. It was a rainy day by the beach, everyone was in good spirits, very chilled out and happy to be in good company. This year, the Sydney crew at Deus invited some emerging forces within the local moto scene including Stories of Bike, Sydney Cafe Racers who were promoting Throttle Roll, The Throttle Dolls and Rising Sun Workshop.
THE THROTTLE DOLLS RIDE: Sydney
The weather Gods were kind to The Throttle Dolls on an April Sunday morning in Sydney, just before we got some unusually violent weather, it was perfect riding through the northern suburbs of the City through some of our prettiest coastal roads. The Dolls coordinated another big ride for all male and female riders alike and was the first time they felt confident to be able to start taking on members.
THE PHOENIX PROJECT: Humbolt County CA
The ladies behind screen printing company Hinterland Empire have rebirthed the Phoenix Project for the second year running. Trinia is an avid rider and loves custom culture and her local community, so when she saw an opportunity to fuse these two passions The Phoenix Project emerge. This year, the volunteers are at it again and they have two donor bikes, a Ducati 748 and a 996 with all raffle money doing to support a children's advocacy service in Humbolt.
