A bunch of Sydney local moto-scene-stas were invited to an intimate gathering to reveal the launch of an exciting collaboration between BMW Motorrad Australia and Deus Ex Machina as the custom motorcycle house revealed their take on the German engineered R nineT.

There were burns outs, revving, a great video by My Media in a crowded workshop surrounded by heaps of enthusiasm. Workshop manager and builder Jeremy Tagand was proud as punch having worked on the custom with BMW Motorrad Australia and Motorretro to reveal a beautiful machine.

The bike, dubbed The HEINRICH MANEUVER maintains the original integrity of the neo-classic R nineT and nods to the history of BMW in a way that is both consistent with the Deus way (referencing 70's style sports bikes) and a departure. The bespoke custom alloy and kangaroo suede seat the most striking new features to the build. Bike Exif have a full feature on the build worth reading.

There were plenty of shenanigans although a pretty low-key event. We did get to see a Suzuki hard tail with a rotary engine get fired up, something none of us may ever see or hear again... but I didn't get any photos of that because may hands were occupied with warm beer and sloppy sliders ;)

Heleana is a force of nature. The founder of In Venus Veritas and The Petrolette, and a co-founder of Rising Sun Workshop. Heleana shares her love of vintage cars, riding motorcycles, and (not-so-secretly) dreams of flying planes and piloting a riva aquariva (a la Sophia Loren) very fast through the canals of Venice. Supportive and connected, community is her lifeblood, and she is as real as they come.

DEUS BIKE BUILD OFF: Sydney

Seeing people descend on Bondi Pavilion to see the love poured into the builds that were entered, made the 5:30am wake up call (on a Sunday) well worth it. It was a rainy day by the beach, everyone was in good spirits, very chilled out and happy to be in good company. This year, the Sydney crew at Deus invited some emerging forces within the local moto scene including Stories of Bike, Sydney Cafe Racers who were promoting Throttle Roll, The Throttle Dolls and Rising Sun Workshop.

Baby Wants to Ride

While I admit this writer has been only been riding a motorcycle for a couple of years, was not born wearing motorcycle boots, and pre-riding, my knowledge of mechanics extended to ‘key turns on, key turns off’. Ironically, I'm is in a good position to dispense some tips on what to look for when buying your first motorcycle, coupled with advice from Deus Ex Machina Workshop Manager and Head Technician (and super nice guy) Jeremy Tagand.

VICTORIOUS: Sydney

Capping off a month of motorcycle events here in Sydney was VICTORIOUS, an exhibition of motorcycle inspired photographs hosted by Sol Invictus Motorcycle Co. Photographers exhibited included Cole Bennetts, Billy Zammit and (IVV contributors) Cam Elkins, Kate Disher-Quill and yours truly. The place was packed, and was really nice to see some images made for the interwebs get the attention they deserved, printed and hung on the white walls of M2 Gallery in Surry Hills.

Red, White and Blue

 Recent Petrolette Tara Henry was encouraged into Dirt by her friends at the Deus Ex Machina in Venice, CA so a lot of her gear and bikes are from within the same crew. Deus and Ornamental Conifer collaborated on this light weight cotton shirt with dirt-track intentions called the OC/D Moto worn over her armour and tucked into her Troy Lee Designs GP Air Pants.

BLACK ARROW LABEL LAUNCH: Sydney

Local start-up label Black Arrow Label (founded by fashion designer and rider Hannah Smith) launched its first product offering last month in Sydney. Like many of us frustrated with the lack of offerings available for women who ride, Hannah put her fashion design skills and entrepreneurial spirit to actually doing something about it.
