YVETTE: Lead Foot and Warm Heart
I believe women have the ability to be powerful whilst also nurturing in a way that offers a unique way to lead. Yvette embodies this in a way that is infectious. As the co-founder of Track Day Club, Yvette has created a club that is like her, warm and inviting whilst offering the need to drive very fast... like really fast!
CAREERS: Alana Baratto
Alana is a marketing executive for Aprilia and Moto Guzzi here in Australia. I got the chance to meet her at the Sydney launch of Moto Guzzi's El Dorado and was instantly impressed with her clear passion for the industry which, after chatting more, is rooted in a long love affair fostered by her upbringing.
PETROLETTES Vol 2. 2015/2016
If 2015 was the year of the Petrolette motorcyclist, 2016 we’ll be searching for more drivers and pilots! As we get closer to the one year anniversary of In Venus Veritas and the emergence of the Petrolette here are some of the many incredible women we’ll be featuring to close out this year and roll into the next.
LAS MARIAS MC: Mexico
If you haven't learnt of Las Marias MC, the all women club gracing the streets of Mexico City, then let us enlighten you. Their catch cry is also a call for freedom where they feel stronger and safer on amongst the chaos of Mexico City roads when they're together but also, and perhaps more to the point of their pursuit for freedom is in the boldness in which they express themselves. Their club titles also come with alter egos that heighten their passion for riding and the individuality it affords. There is no specific bike type, for the Marias their club is about riding and standing stronger together.
TARA: Leaving a Trail
The road to pursuing the stuff that makes us happy, for some, seems to come fraught with fear of failure which is why so many of us stay where we are… comfortable, secure, bored. Meeting Tara was utterly refreshing, even while recovering from injuries she incurred at Dirt Quake recently, she was still smiling, passionate and sharp. Tara just goes for it, makes no excuses and doesn’t let any hype threaten the joy she gains from dirt and trail riding.
LINDSAY: Everyday Adventure
Adventure. We all want it in our lives. We day dream about leaving it all behind for a simpler life. We want to see new things, be new people. For Lindsay she made a conscious choice to make sure life is one big adventure, everyday. That means saying “yes” to life, turning the everyday into adventures and her motorcycle is a conduit to that lifestyle choice.
THE PETROLETTES: Road Style Vol. 1
Often we get asked about the specifics of the gear on women we feature on IVV. Personally, we (Erica and I) have the same questions! When picking out my gear for riding, I’d much rather ask a woman (whose style and shape matches mine) where she got her armoured jacket. Sooooo.... we've gone looking in our first of many road style features of women who ride in varying capacities on different rides for you (and us) to steal their gear secrets.
SHELBY: Congruity
Shelby saw that there was a need in her home town of Denver Colorado to create a safe and fun environment for other women to experience riding. There were no feminist reasons for it, just the simple acknowledgment that women are more comfortable sharing the experience with other women… and so was born The Scarlet Headers; an all female social riding group in Denver.
PINK PANTHERS: Liberia
The Pink Panthers motorcycle club in Monrovia, Liberia is made up of women who make their living riding motorcycles as taxis. After several assaults, (one rider was guided into an ambush by potential passengers, beaten and had her bike stolen) the women motorcycle taxis of Monrovia decided to band together and established a motorcycle club by wearing bright pink and riding together.
CLAIRE: The Journey
About eighteen months ago, Claire did what most of us take a lifetime to do. She abandoned the comfort and security of her well-paid, comfortable existence, to pursue her life’s passion… flying planes as a commercial pilot. In that time Claire has delved head first into full-time study and training, is probably poorer than ever and has never been happier.
AMY SHORE: Through Her Eyes
Amy Shore is a professional photographer whose clients include Classic Driver, Goodwood and Iron & Air to name a few. Her Instagram account and blog are full of images of vintage cars, planes and motorcycles shot with compositions worthy of iconic status. Amy clearly loves what she does and her enthusiasm permeates her work, so I was lucky enough to grab her for a moment in her busy schedule to ask her a few questions.
