IVV PETROLETTES: The Ride

On a sunny November morning in Sydney, IVV coordinated the first five Petrolettes to meet and ride together through the beachy suburbs, along the harbour and finishing in the city to capture the group in one photo. IVV was accompanied by Silodrome Senior Editor, James McBride and talented photographer Kate Disher-Quill to assist in capturing the morning.

These ladies turned some heads! (and made a few people think twice about wolf-whistling at them). For most, this was the first all female ride they experienced, sharing tips on where to get good riding gear, sussing out each others bikes, and having a good laugh. Heaps of fun seeing these five total babes meet and talk gear, bikes and riding in the confidence of fellow femme riders. This was the first IVV femme ride... but definitely not the last.

Heleana is a force of nature. The founder of In Venus Veritas and The Petrolette, and a co-founder of Rising Sun Workshop. Heleana shares her love of vintage cars, riding motorcycles, and (not-so-secretly) dreams of flying planes and piloting a riva aquariva (a la Sophia Loren) very fast through the canals of Venice. Supportive and connected, community is her lifeblood, and she is as real as they come.

Introducing the first five Petrolettes of IVV. Five very different women, riders, bikes and adventurists but all commonly want to see more women on the road, loving life and living in the moment. Every fortnight IVV will be taking a deeper look at the lives of each of these women further learning why they ride and what they love about it.

Often we get asked about the specifics of the gear on women we feature on IVV. Personally, we (Erica and I) have the same questions! When picking out my gear for riding, I’d much rather ask a woman (whose style and shape matches mine) where she got her armoured jacket. Sooooo.... we've gone looking in our first of many road style features of women who ride in varying capacities on different rides for you (and us) to steal their gear secrets.

Starting Out & Staying Friends

Those of us who got into riding after our husbands, boyfriends, partners, lovers quickly work out that having them teach you how to ride can be a mine-field of death stares and arguments. Unless you’ve got an authentic peaceful relationship where communication between you is flawless then you needn’t read on (but please email me because I have many questions!). For the rest of us, the best thing to do is to ride with someone who won’t tolerate your attitude, a girlfriend or riding group (of women) really helps!

THE THROTTLE DOLLS RIDE: Sydney

The weather Gods were kind to The Throttle Dolls on an April Sunday morning in Sydney, just before we got some unusually violent weather, it was perfect riding through the northern suburbs of the City through some of our prettiest coastal roads. The Dolls coordinated another big ride for all male and female riders alike and was the first time they felt confident to be able to start taking on members.
