MARIA: The Doll

After growing up surrounded by people who rode motorcycles Maria had no chance making it through adulthood without riding herself. Her mother and family friends a source of inspiration and encouragement, in her short two years on the road, Maria looks like she's been at it for years.

Having a family around her who ride and best friend by her side, Maria was well supported in her first days on the road. Her mother would guide her around roads she was familiar with and give her points to adjust her riding style. Also having a neighbour and family friend who owned more motorcycles you can poke a stick at, Maria would arrive home and debrief her experience before getting feedback to adjust her riding the next day.

I first met Maria at Deus’ Festival of Thump a few years back and she only just got her licence. It was no surprise she made an entry with bestie Nina (pictured below) by her side as they arrived on their Viragos, all smiles and excited by their life now on two wheels. Since that weekend, Maria has gone from the new-babe-on-the-block to a making a significant mark on the image of women who ride in the Sydney Cafe Racer scene, often as a model for motorcycle events and products, which provided a refreshing change. Through The Throttle Dolls she hopes to help inspire other women to ride, look good and live their lives their own way.

Maria’s day job immersed in preventing violence against women, upon learning this, I saw this lady as an inspiration to other women. Owning her own image and submersing herself fully into life on two wheels, she rides every day, everywhere.

Maria now loves her Yamaha SRV250 cafe racer "777" preferring the riding position and nimble manoeuvrability perfect for getting around the city. Both bike and rider together are unmistakable, Maria is a total babe who rides for no one else but herself. With so many positive memories of her adventures with her friends and family there is no wonder this girl is hooked.

Maria is now travelling Europe, indefinitely, and no doubt will be finding a bike to love and women to ride with wherever she ends up.
